Larry Hadden, Director at Jefferson Energy Cooperative, is a very hard working and positive person. “I’m an optimist,” he said. “I got that drive and determination from my mother. I’m just a real positive person because of her.” That drive and determination helps him balance his time between his many responsibilities including three jobs and his family. Larry first got involved with Jefferson Energy when he was serving on the Glascock County Board of Education. He has been on the Board of Directors at Jefferson Energy for 10 years since then, two of which he served as Vice President and another two as Chairman of the Board. (10022189-01)
When Larry’s not establishing policies, reviewing activities and making important decisions at the Cooperative’s monthly meetings, you can usually find him at Hadco Vet Supply. Larry owns the business located just outside Stapleton city limits on Highway 296 toward Thomson. He started Hadco 12 years ago. The small, local business made up of five full-time employees and two part-time employees, sells feed and animal health supplies over most of Georgia and a large part of South Carolina. Hadco brings in 10 to 15 different ingredients for its feed to blend it specifically for each of its customers’ cattle and livestock needs. Last year alone sales totaled $4.5 million.
After office hours at Hadco, Larry goes home to his 650 acres of pasture, hay and timber and his wife, Holly Hadden. The Haddens live on the Glascock and Warren County line and attend Mill Creek Baptist Church in Glascock County. They have two sons, Jim, who is a senior at the University of Georgia in Athens, and John, a junior also at the University of Georgia. Jim is majoring in consumer economics and John is majoring in both journalism and mass media. “I’m proud of them,” said Larry, who also went to the University of Georgia. He spent two years there finishing up his animal science major after attending Tifton College for two years.
If you can’t find him at the cooperative, at the office, or at home, Larry is out in his fields taking care of his cattle. He raises cattle to be sold at bull sales every year. Larry and Holly actually met at a cattle show and for a long time she helped him with his cattle until she decided to go into full time teaching at T.J. Elder in Sandersville.
Larry stays busy, but feels that with everything he experiences he gains valuable knowledge that helps him perform better at his other tasks. For example Larry said, “It’s been a learning experience to serve on the Board of Directors at the Cooperative. I feel like some of the things I experienced have helped me in my own business.” Larry stays optimistic and just takes his life one day and one job at a time.”
