It’s a simple life. And it’s a good life. Tim Garrett lives the one thing he has always known, farming.
“I have always been on a farm. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do,” says Tim.
The Swainsboro native continues a family tradition that he says runs deep in his blood.
Not only has farming allowed Garrett to fill a lifelong passion, but also on a more practical level, it has provided for his family, his wife Judy and their three daughters. Kristi, 25; Kelli, 22; and Kathi, 17.
“Whatever we need, he provides for us,” says Judy. Cotton is the staple crop of this family farm. And even during an off year, no needs go unmet.
“Farming isn’t the best occupation, but no matter what, our parents have provided everything we need and a lot of what we want,” says Kelli.
There is one fundamental (101944-01) that the Garrett children say they are most appreciative of is “being brought up in a good Christian home,” says Kelli. “Both of our parents have been great.”
“We tried to teach them to treat people with respect in all relations of life,” says Tim.
Away from the farm, some of Tim and Judy’s most prized moments have been attending all of the basketball and softball games that all three of their daughters have played over the years.
“We made it to nearly every game, even during our oldest daughter’s college years,” says Judy.
“We have been really fortunate with the girls. They’ve been really good girls, but I think that’s more to their mother’s doing,” says Tim.
During Tim Garrett’s tenure as a Director he has served two terms as Vice Chairman (1989-1990 and 2000-2001) and is currently serving his second term as Chairman. He also served as Chairman of the Board in
1991-1992. Tim currently serves as a director of Georgia EMC, a position he has held since 1997.
“The changes that have taken place during my years of service to the cooperative have been vast,” says Tim. “As a Georgia EMC Director I have the opportunity to see what cooperatives all around the state are doing and I can honestly say that the Jefferson Energy Cooperative is one of the most advanced.”
“Working with Tim Garrett on cooperative issues is always enjoyable,” says Kenneth Cook, President & CEO. “Tim demonstrates the same devotion to the cooperative that he shows his family.”
