(Wrens, 5/07/09)—Electric cooperatives in Georgia, including Jefferson Energy Cooperative, displayed the expertise needed to keep the lights on during the 15th Annual Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo held May 2 at GreyStone Power Corp. headquarters in Douglasville.
According to Steve Talbott with Jefferson Energy, the Lineman's Rodeo attracts the best linemen from electric membership corporations (EMCs) and electric cities of Georgia to compete in events based on traditional lineman tasks and skills. “Few people understand the talent of these men and the level of difficulty in this type of work,” said Mr. Talbott. “This competition gives them a chance to showcase their exceptional skills in a fun and safe setting.”
Approximately 200 electric linemen participated in the competition which tests linemen skills in pole-climbing, hurt-man rescue, and transformer repair and high-voltage line-insulator changes. Jefferson Energy had two teams and one apprentice in the competition. “Our guys are very proud of what they do.
And we’re proud of their performance at the rodeo,” said Mr. Talbott. “We’ll take this experience and learn from it. And we’ll definitely be back to compete in upcoming events like this". |
